We have come together, a collective by the name of Brown Rappers Network, to shine the spotlight on the music that our unique board member group has to share. We continuously strive to give true reviews and interviews with the artists we come across online and in person.
Through our instagram channels we entertain song suggestions and post submissions, where the board members all sit together to vote on whether or not we review the song or post, and depending on that, we execute our marketing.
Co-Founder & CEO of Brown Rappers Network, Manav Thakker, started off his artistic journey with a passion for writing stories, stories about events in his life, no matter how big or small, there was always magic in the way he portrayed a scenario.
“Opportunistic networking, magnificent rhymes, and extremely detailed descriptions”, were key ingredients in his recipe for self success.
Soon after Manav developed confidence in his voice, he sought out larger opportunities where he would MC for events that hosted an Indian Ambassador and have the ability to perform some of his original songs as opening acts for large names like Kunal Kamra, Rahul Subramanian, and Jay Sean.
The year after that he was the Co-MC and closing act for a large name in the entertainment industry, a Bollywood caliber artist in Vir Das, who came to the Pennsylvania State University, to perform stand up comedy.
Seeing how much these opportunities meant to him and his development as an artist and performer, he evolved a vision of being the connection for all artists to communicate, create, and perform together on the big stage. This is where the Brown Rappers Network Media Company came in to play. Acting as a record label and agent, promoter and of course a network for talented artists around the world.
COLONY is creating a space for the diaspora in states of imperial oppression aka ‘the colonized’. They provide art services, engineering services, and video shoots currently based out of the UAE.
Colony’s main focus in the integration with Brown Rappers Network is to provide music/sound production & film services to the general public at a significantly lower cost than professionals usually do, especially for those engaged in the Network.
Having already put out several songs and music videos already, in addition to taking on freelance projects, the upgrade in equipment now has the Colony excited to work more than ever and take everything they create to the next level.
Co-Founder of Colony, Vinayak Menon aka Skivinnie grew up in Dubai, shortly moved to Bangkok, Thailand for a few years where he and Manav became best friends through a youthful connection of sports and music, which later proved itself to be an much deeper bond when communication was less but as pure as ever. This relationship was built on loyalty and love and will last a lifetime.
Skivinnie was the first one to start putting out content with his freestyle raps and remixes of iconic songs in the hip hop style, he managed to garner the musical skills of a master through pure talent and passion. Able to play the guitar and piano through to the Grade 8 (Highest level) on both instruments, sound engineering and production was his next goal. Of course he learned it all by himself and can pretty much include any instrument into his music at this point. As gifted artist himself, he recognized the talent in Manav’s writing and vision immediately, and encouraged Manav to continue this artistic endeavor.
When Manav began interviewing artists as a new concept of the Brown Rappers Network, it was almost absolute that Skivinnie would be his first artist spotlight. The next artist spotlight was Siddartha, a Canadian rapper of Indian origin who had a vibrant story to tell.
The success of both these interviews was profound with much support from the south asian community as well as the YouTube community.
Even with several thousand views on Manav’s first interview, this wasn’t the driver in the continuation of the talk show. Manav enjoyed the whole process of contacting an artist, connecting with them about life and music and other relevant topics of conversation, learning about the artists story in their perspective, what went well for them and what they had to overcome.
There was so much to learn and it was all so much fun. Manav knew this is something that he definitely wanted to continue. Having candid conversations with artists about how they’re doing, what’s their story and learn about their musical tastes and projects to further increase the community’s artistic palette and knowledge so that all aspiring artists have a tool of inspiration and guidance in the direction that they want to progress in.
With the addition of Karthik Menon, Skivinnie’s older brother who has a background short films and worked at filter copy, a media production house for the Pocket Aces team. With the camera he brings the magic and with his vision he builds Colony Productions mission.
Along with younger brother, and CEO of Colony, Skivinnie, who brings ample of in house talent with a degree in sound engineering from SAE in Dubai as well as supreme lyrical abilities having written and produced a number of songs that have been recognized on the big stage winning opener competitions at concerts for giant names like Divine and Raftaar.
