Our next official Hip Hop Artist Interview is with this gifted songwriter and an absolute gem of a person: Dalton Jaxon
From references of the greatness of Mohammed Ali used to describe a relationship gone salty, to new projects, new love, and the source of magical inspiration. Dalton Jaxon is here to entertain us all.
Dalton Jaxon Field aka Dalton Jaxon is a half Mexican and half American brown rapper who actually grew up in Bangkok, Thailand for the most part, attending and graduating from NIST International School in 2017. Dalton Jaxon has released a lot of music on SoundCloud and a music video on YouTube. He is steadily growing as a person right now and enjoys the artistry as a mode of transcribing his feelings, usually on days with intense emotion.
He famously says, “You write your best songs when you’re either heartbroken or in love.” This is a statement that has echoed through the office of the Brown Rappers Network and resonated with so many budding songwriters.
Here’s a little something the artist wrote exclusively for this channel…
“When I started making music in 2017, mumble rap was huge and there was a soundcloud rapper movement. I enjoyed listening to this music, but it never really translated into the music I wanted to make. Nevertheless, I do have a lot of music about partying but I’ve definitely transitioned more into making music about how I feel, my emotions in particular situations.
Growing up in Bangkok, I was able to experience a lot of things most people never will. I’m grateful for the people I met there, and the many cultures I was exposed to. I met some of my best friends there who pushed me to post my music on soundcloud, even though it wasn’t good yet . My music is inspired by those experiences and those people, as well as the music I listen to. So far I’ve released three albums and currently working on two others. “Mixtape 2020” will release before the end of the year and “Pres before Koi” @theclubatkoi will be out sometime early next year. I really appreciate the opportunity Brown Rappers Network (BRN) has given me to talk a little about myself and hopefully its followers give me a shot.” – Dalton Jaxon

“I’ve had a lot of time so I’ve been working on some music. I got about like 10 unreleased songs right now five of them I’m pretty proud of, just haven’t really found the right time to put them out yet I’m kind of I’m gonna try to work on all of them put
them all out together. I’m kind of switching up my style a little bit, going from more trap like and transitioning that more into like dancehall so like getting the beats into a little bit more of an upbeat tempo than my previous stuff.”
Dalton really wants to produce and get into beat making. He has been talking to a friend about it who produces a little bit and will seek further help through him.
uh i was talking to a friend about it.
For now, he just does the vocals, lyrics, and mixing by himself. He uses logic pro 10 and with the use of additional softwares he is in the process of learning how to perfect this craft.
Even with a little right now, he is making the most of what he has…
“Right now my studio is literally my closet i just record in my closet just have the mic and the laptop yeah I’m doing it, but I mean, I think I’ve come pretty far from my first days. It’s nice to look back on music that I just put out there that I would record with my iPhone. Just one take, put it on GarageBand, upload it to SoundCloud, like whatever. My friends would talk about it at school the next day and encourage me.
Now like I’m getting a little bit better, I have a real mic I take more time to actually create the song. I have better software so it’s kind of fun listening to the differences like how I progressed not only in lyrics but in like quality of of the production of the song.”
Dalton even takes the time the to explain some of the lyrics in his song “Call Me” in detail:
“<said I was the greatest in the past like I’m Ali> the Ali reference is like Muhammad Ali probably the greatest boxer of all time. It’s kind of like after she’s moved on from me or I’ve moved on from her, she’s talking but I’m like you used to call me the greatest, so I was like what’s up with that?
<yeah I know I changed but ain’t nothing gonna stop me> yeah I feel like I’ve changed quite a bit from especially like the era that I was thinking of when I was writing the song versus when I actually put it out. I changed quite a bit. I matured quite a bit. So I was like, you know I just changed but you aren’t going to stop me with that.
Last line, <I know you stopped loving me but why do you still call me> yeah again, that’s just like after she’s moved on, she’s still getting up and calling me back.
Thanks Vin Stratton, he was the one who directed it and filmed it. That’s my boy man. Right now he’s in like 10th grade or 11th grade so he’s he’s still a kid he’s really young but super talented with photography, video production, anything that has to do with film that kid is a star for real. I met him playing rugby and I met him through my brother actually. He’s just a super sweet dude. I think he’s super talented, a really smart guy. I think he’s got a promising career man, like Cole Bennett kind of stuff man.
He’s a really cool dude.
He’s super talented, he made my music video in like five days like all that stuff like we filmed for like maybe two hours. We went to the top of this apartment building that his friend lives at, we’re just up there filming. It was a lot of fun. We’re just dancing around like I’m not taking anything too seriously, even if you watch the videos I’m kind of just doing stupid. That was when the music video for ransom came out by Lil Tecca. So some of the edits like the zooming out or the dancing, some of that’s kind of inspired by that music video. I didn’t give him any direction, any nothing, I just trusted his intuition with it and i was really happy with how it came out.
It’s really easy to be inspired when you’re either heartbroken or when you’re in love.
I think the album before, which was called “self-titled,” that was definitely a heartbreak album. I look back on that and it’s hard to listen to the songs because I’m just not in that state of mind anymore. I mean love
letters to you it’s like I’m feeling a lot more better, I’m in love,
so just the whole vibe is completely different. The lyrics came so easy to me, the melodies, everything came really
easy to me, and it was really fun to make.
Currently living in Colorado, Boulder, Dalton has taken up academic courses in Data Science, in order to further his professional knowledge. Bangkok will always be home for him, however, for now, the United States of America is where he shall continue his journey.
Dalton’s younger brother recently graduated from high school and has also released multiple songs with multiple music videos in collaboration with Vin Stratton, who was also the creative director, photographer/videographer, and editor for Dalton Jaxon’s music video, “Call Me”.
I really hope we can manage to get Dalton and his brother on the show together to talk more about their stories and upcoming projects. Pink Cloud is the artist name of Dalton’s younger brother. Be sure to check out his content before he pulls up to the BRN Show!
