Before I learnt much about her groundbreaking role playing Nitara for the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie, I came across an article by the Daily Telegraph UK that immediately put her on my radar as an artist that I wanted to have a conversation with.
I reached out to her expressing my gratitude to her for voicing such a concern as stereotypes in cinema and boldly owning her aspirations to be someone of deep character and importance. She responded with positive force and appreciated the recognition.
In November of the most tide turning year (2020) Mel and I got on a zoom call and had a conversation. One of the most eye opening and immersive conversations I have had on a show before. We kept going on and on expressing a vast amount things to each other. From her experience growing up in multiple countries to her introduction to Bollywood and then moving on to life in Australia. The conversation lasted hours 😂 (and it was amazing)
