As we continue this wonderful discovery of rising brown rapper and dancer Siddartha, we learn one very important thing. Why the name Siddartha was chosen.
There are several reasons and connections to the name that are so unique and exciting to hear.
From family relations to spirituality and a dash of philosophical challenges, the mold that comprises Siddartha is unveiled…
“So funny enough uh like my my full name is Gautam Siddharth Tiwari. My dad named me after the Buddha, whose name is Siddhartha Gautama. I was thinking for a long time like what should my artist name be what should my artist name be, I found out about drake and how drake is his middle name like it’s Aubrey Drake Graham, so I was like oh word. For the longest time as a kid it was funny that I was the only one in my family with a middle name which was which was always cool to me. It was always like a little little thing of pride.
Also, I didn’t want to be Gautam because i felt like people would confuse it with “Gotham” and have like the Batman reference constantly for my first name. So I was like okay, Siddharth. When I found out that the original name was Siddhartha, I was like I like that. So then I changed the spelling so that when people try to search up the buddha they don’t find me, or when they try to search me up they don’t get the buddha. Then I just I just decided to to stick with Siddartha because I’m actually I’m into buddhist philosophy, like the principles of self-awareness and the principle of detachment. I think as an artist it works to a certain degree, it’s like yes, you have to be one with your feelings, but for you to be even be able to do that, you have to be aware of what’s going on. Those philosophies always stuck with me and I feel like they represent how I live, so I felt like I didn’t need to make up a name. I was like, I like this. I just like the sound of Siddhartha more than Siddharth. I like the “dartha.”
The other big thing is I didn’t want to whitewash my name. I felt like that was too easy.
Do we constantly have to acclimate to make ourselves marketable or can I make myself dope enough that people will learn my name.
When you look at artists like xxxtentacion, or when you look at artists like black spelled with a literal six (6lack) it’s like, no…
If you’re dope, if you stand by what you do, and you have a strong like message or good music or whatever then people will take the effort to learn your name, so don’t make it easy for them.
At one point I was like, should I just go by Sid? Then I’m like no, nah, people can call me Sid personally if they want to yeah, but the name is Siddhartha.”
